He rescues Lin Xiuying from Yan’s son Cheng Xiniu, whose death in the struggle forces Du to help Xiuying pursue justice. When Madam Yan’s retainers avenge her by murdering Xiuying’s father, the upright magistrate Tang Cheng bravely hears the case despite political pressure. Through clear evidence and fearless judgment, Tang Cheng exposes Madam Yan’s abuses and sends her to the capital for imperial review.
